Spalted Maple Charcuterie Board

Spalted Maple Charcuterie Board

While visiting the lumberyard with my dad, I spotted a stunning piece of spalted maple. The dark lines and patterns running through the board made it look almost like a painting. The wood was practically begging to come home with us, so I asked my dad if we could buy it - and he said yes.

Back in the shop, I studied the board, found the most interesting section of grain, and sketched out the shape for a handmade charcuterie board. This ended up being the largest single piece of wood I had worked on with the intent to sell. After lots of careful cutting, sanding, and finishing, the spalted maple charcuterie board turned out beautifully.

At a local show, it sold within an hour of people starting to look at the table. That quick sale made me feel like my woodworking skills were really starting to click. One day, when I'm allowed to use all the tools, I hope to turn out many more unique pieces like this.
